Yokohama Rubber’s Tire Production Location in Thailand Achieves Complete Zero Emissions
Tokyo - The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., announced today that Yokohama Tire Manufacturing (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (TRYT), a key production location for passenger- car, truck and bus tires in Thailand, had achieved "complete zero emissions" - that is, no waste subject to direct landfill disposal. The achievement, which occurred in November, was the fifth at overseas production location.

TRYT achieved "zero emissions" - landfill disposal less than 1% of total waste - in December 2009, the first overseas production location to do so. It continued its research into new methods for disposing of electric parts, batteries, etc., which, although representing only a small volume, had till then been subject to direct landfill disposal. TRYT then conducted an on-site investigation of its contractor commissioned to dispose of waste from the plant, confirming achievement of "complete zero emissions." TRYT now turns its attention to the next step: achieving "100% waste recycling."*

Under a basic policy of asserting world-class strengths in technologies for protecting the environment, as stated in its "Medium-Range Management Plan: Grand Design 100 (GD100)," the Yokohama Rubber Group has endorsed the concept of "top-level environmental friendliness in production." A priority issue in that declaration is the reduction of waste emissions at domestic and overseas production sites. Domestically, all eight of Yokohama’s own production sites have maintained "complete zero emissions" since March 2006, and had achieved 100% recycling of industrial waste by the fiscal year ended March 31, 2010.

All 15 overseas production sites aim at achieving "complete zero emissions" by the fiscal year ending March 31, 2012. Along with TRYT, Yokohama Tire Philippines Inc. in the Philippines, and Hangzhou Yokohama Tire Co., Ltd., Yokohama HAMATITE (Hangzhou) Co., Ltd. and Yokohama Hoses & Coupling (Hangzhou) Co., Ltd., in China, have met that goal.

* No waste generated in the course of business activities is subject to final disposal (i.e., direct landfill disposal or incineration without effective utilization).
