 | | | Yokohama Rubber to Retreat from Aircraft Tire Business | | | Tokyo - The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., today announced its decision to retreat from the aircraft (AC) tire business. Since 1940, Yokohama Rubber has been engaged in the manufacture and sale of AC tires and AC retread tires for domestic airlines and the Ministry of Defense. The company however has decided to withdraw from the business because AC tire sales are a minor part of Yokohama Rubber’s whole business and they have no strong growth potential for the future.
Yokohama Rubber plans to stop product deliveries on a step-by-step basis by the end of 2009 and all after follow-up services within 2010. With respect to the utilization of personnel currently engaged in the AC tire business and the AC tire plant in Hiratsuka Factory in Hiratsuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture, the company plans to determine details at a later date. Yokohama Rubber expects its AC tire sales to record approximately 800 million yen in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2009.
